ACT NOW: Send your panties

May 13th, 2008 by admin

Here’s what you can do :

1) Clean out your drawers,
• choose some panties,
• Write a message of solidarity on them (for example, « Solidarity with Burma », « Oust the Military Regime! » « Take that, Than Shwe! » …) and/or print the flower-shaped sticker displaying the leaders of the military regime (available on Lanna Action for Burma).

2) Send your package to the representatives of the military junta in Canada :
Embassy of the Union of Myanmar
85 Range Rd, 903
Ottawa (Ontario) K1N 8J6

Not from Canada?
Check this list of Worldwide Burmese Embassies to send to the closest Embassy.

OR if you prefer, send directly to Burma:
Senior General Than Shwe
Chairman, State Peace and Development Council
c/o Ministry of Defence
Naypyitaw, Union of Myanmar

Suggestions regarding mailing your panties:

We have learned that reprensentatives of the military junta at the Burnese Embassy may sometimes return the enveloppe to the sender without opening it. This is a proof that the Campaign is working!

We suggest that you use an alternative Return to sender adress, for example:

  • An embassy of a country that is friendly to the military regime in Burma (China, Singapore, India, etc.)
  • A journalist, newspaper, radio station (see The Campaign in the Media section for examples).

You can also take a picture of your panties and send the print as a postcard, without having to send the actual panties in an envelope.

3) Share your comments about the campaign below.

After you have shared your comments, an e-mail will be sent to the given address to confirm your signature. Please make sure that your e-mail address is correct or you will not receive this e-mail and your comments will not be published on the website

This is a wonderful idea, and I'll be sharing it in the UK! Women sustain and nurture our societies. They should be protected and empowered, never abused. Let's make a difference together, whenever and however we can!

Rights & Democracy
This campaign can be even more powerful since the cyclone, when the junta was exposed worldwide as a brutal regime that cares more about its power than its people.
